    The 7th VH AWARD

Hyundai Motor Group is proud to announce the open call for the 7th VH AWARD, inviting media artists to explore new horizons through this global initiative. Held biennially since 2016, the award has provided a global platform to amplify and support voices of creators whose work engages with the context of Asia.

Individuals and collectives can submit their proposals under the condition of their work falling into the criteria of audiovisual art and engaging with the context of Asia. The award welcomes submissions from all over the world — individuals or collectives of Asian descent, those based in Asia, and members of the Asian diaspora. The proposed projects should explore audiovisual art in screen-based format, including video art, motion graphics, animation, games, films, or other newly explored areas.

The award aims to illuminate diverse cultures and histories by encouraging bold artistic experiments. DooEun Choi, Art Director of Hyundai Motor, highlights the award’s role in fostering a creative dialogue.

The VH AWARD has evolved as a distinctive platform for emerging media artists from across Asia and its diasporas to address critical contemporary issues,” says Choi. “With broadened partnerships with institutions and enhanced opportunities for applicants, the 7th edition invites artists to explore the potential of audiovisual art, creating works that transcend disciplinary and cultural boundaries.

    Enhanced Opportunities for Artistic Growth

Reflecting a commitment to a sustainable creative environment, the VH AWARD provides artists with a solid foundation to pursue bold, experimental projects. Five selected finalists will receive a production grant to realize a new work, as well as given the opportunity to participate in an expanded online residency program developed in partnership with Ars Electronica (Linz, Austria) for supporting artistic development through masterclasses and workshops.

This year, the 7th VH AWARD invites artists to enhanced opportunities. Finalists will be awarded increased production grants, higher than in previous years. Furthermore, a newly introduced category “Honorary Mention” will recognize a wider range of contemporary voices. Artists receiving the new Honorary Mention will be recognized globally through several announcements and invited to join selective components of the online residency program.

In June 2027, one Grand Prix recipient will be selected by a group of international juries and granted an additional 30,000 USD to support future artistic endeavors.

    Global Collaboration & Screening Platforms

The 7th VH AWARD will be conducted in collaboration with artists, curators and arts institutions bringing together diverse areas of expertise and contextual perspectives to examine contemporary developments in media art.

The jury includes Christl Baur, Head of Ars Electronica Festival; Sabine Himmelsbach, Director of HEK (House of Electronic Arts); Honor Harger, Director of ArtScience Museum; Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director of the New Museum; and Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joon, artist duo based in Korea.

In partnership with leading institutions, finalists’ works will be presented to international audiences. Their commissioned works will be showcased across prominent global platforms from 2027 such as HEK in Basel, the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Vision Hall in Yongin, and Singapore Art Week 2028.
