Indexhibit is a web application used to build and maintain an archetypal, invisible website format that combines text, image, movie and sound. Created by Daniel Eatock & Jeffery Vaska and inspired by Daniel’s left and right frame format back in 2001, in in 2004 Daniel invited others to replicate the format and over 200 people responded, forming a community web project promoting content over complicated website designs.
Indexhibit is about simplicity and content. With many platforms around to use as CMS systems, wordpress, dropular included, the amount of functionality included and clear steer towards blogging as a method of creating content, Indexhibit provides a simple way to create an online portfolio adopting the archetypal layout of left and right frame. Projects are loaded by accessing the backened panel where simple set of options await your input. Because this is aimed at portfolios, loading images could not be easier. You can specify a different background for each project or use a background image. A number of options are also provided on how you want to display the images. These can be either as a slideshow, a slide, grow or any of the other few provided. The app also can resize your images and use the thumbnail size you specify. Basic text editing options are also there and saving you the trouble of installing and managing analytics, these are also included.
Whilst wordpress or drupal offer same functionality and making install even easier thanks to one click installs a number of providers are now including in hosting packages,  Indexhibit installation is in principle quite easy. As long as you have created a database and know the name and user, uploading the files to FTP and /install.php should get you up and running pretty quick. Whilst I adore wordpress, Indexhibit would be a refreshing way to remove the incredible amount of extras I never use. With a simple CSS customization you can add your own feel to the site. When you do have a look at some sites that are using Indexhibit, you will appreciate the simplicity and most probably delete wordpress and start fresh uploading projects that deserve all the cleaness Indexhibit provides allowing the work to speak for itself.
