  • Created by Vienna based Depart (Leonhard Lass and Gregor Ladenhauf), ‘The Entropy Gardens’ is an explorative VR experience that challenges one of humanity’s most archetypical art forms – garden making. It explores its myths, aesthetics and modes of perception.

Like a garden, The Entropy Gardens attempts to become a spatiotemporal poem — a poetic organism.

In the form of a sprawling journey it constructs a hermetic, virtual garden as a poetic ecosystem — a psychic landscape that is foremost a complex audiovisual experience. It admits the visitor into a place that is equally challenging and contemplative (and of course profoundly weird).

The Entropy Gardens was recently shown at MUTEK virtual exhibition, Montreal also the talk at Expanded Animations in Hagenberg/Streaming. The project was also awarded Honorary Mention at Arts Electronica’s Prix Ars “Computer Animation”.

    Created with Unity.

DEPART is Leonhard Lass and Gregor Ladenhauf. Their core endeavour is the conception of poetic, audiovisual immersions. Deeply rooted in the digital they explore the ritualistic character of algorithms and venture deliberately into the uncanny – creating unique moments that are coined by formally rigorous and profound aesthetics.
