Created by Dmitry Morozov (::vtol::), ‘Financial Risks’ is a project designed to present an ironical viewpoint on encoded wallets as a data input interface which invites to overcome fear of impossibility to control spread of confidential information for the sake of curiosity of interaction with an object of art.
After almost a half-century long history of existence of plastic cards with a magnet stripe, they have become a real symbol of automation and encryption of money resources and financial flows. At the same time, cards also became the object of phobias and fetishes of their owners, transforming into a sensitive body part responsible for welfare encrypted on a little magnet stripe and protected with a 4-digit numeric passcode.
The installation invites visitors to use their credit card to interact with the instrument. The most daring can enter their pin code and in return will receive an artefact printout from a little cash register printer with the screenshot of the result of their play with the instrument. The installation consists of 6 bank card readers,a hardware system of sound and video synthesis, a keyboard for pin code entering, a 2-channel sound system and a cash register printer configured to print images. Up to 6 cards simultaneously may be used for playing.
