Designed by Camille Morizot, Di-Dah-Dit is a telepresence device that takes the form of two distant objects connected. Two players face each other and manage the progress of a ball balancing on two rails. The physical actions of one player are reproduced by the remote player. A collection of LED light, give instructions to the player, a form of invitation to interactive play.
The installation is a reflection on the tangible communication through play, as well as technical and aesthetic exploration in the era of rapid prototyping and all connected.
Under the hood an Arduino board controls the movement of the virtual player. A single servo manipulates the spacing between the bars keeping the ball always in motion. LEDs on the top face of the device act as visual communicators both inviting players to the game and as a signal where to position the ball at the start of the game. The notion of telepresence is maintained throughout the play with the help of movement and visual feedback. Two devices are required to play, one at each location.
